Waterford City

Built by the Vikings in AD 914, Waterford city is Ireland’s oldest city.

Waterford Crystal

Fine crystal is Waterford’s most famous export, both nationally and internationally.  Founded by two brothers in 1783, their vision was to “create the finest quality crystal for drinking vessels and objects of beauty for the home.”.  The reputation they established for creating glass of unsurpassed beauty and quality still abounds today, with Waterford crystal still high on many Irish wedding gift lists.  Waterford stemware, which is as weighty as it is magnificent makes a glass of wine, even more pleasurable than normal.

Lismore Castle

Lismore Castle in Waterford, Ireland, is a one of a kind and a repository of extraordinary history, from walls marked by Cromwellian cannon balls to the days it was owned by Sir Walter Raleigh -the man who brought potatoes and tobacco to Ireland.  The castle dates back to 1170 and is the birthplace of Robert Boyle ‘the Father of Modern Chemistry’.  Over the years it has hosted many guests including Lucian Freud, Fred Astaire and JFK. All of whom slept a night or more in this private castle on the banks of the River Blackwater.

Whale watching

Waterford has many beautiful beaches and seaside towns including Tramore and Dunmore East.  The Waterford coast is popular for wind surfing, fishing and boating, with many tours operating trips for dolphin and whale watching.
